Atlas of European Values

The Atlas of European Values presents the ideas and beliefs of the Europeans in the form of graphs, charts and maps. This atlas summarizes the outcomes of the European Values Study, combined with results from the World Values Survey, two projects that have measured values over the past three decades. The European Values Study project is run by researchers from 33 countries and is administered by Tilburg University, the Netherlands. Beneath some examples of maps and graphs.

Little angels

Little angels

European families changed from father-centred families into children-centred families. Europeans believe that parents should do their utmost best for their 'little angels', even at the cost of their own well-being. And the prevailing view is that both a father and a mother are necessary for a child in order to grow up happily. Here, individualism meets its limitations: as soon as children are involved, people appear reluctant to adhere to individualistic stances, instead they remain loyal to the traditional family patterns.
